Sin Tax opponents step up their fight

Sin Tax opponents step up their fight

(Cleveland) - The Coalition Against the Sin Tax is holding an organizational meeting at 6pm at the Market Garden Brewery. The group is opposed to Cuyahoga County Issue 7, which is on the May ballot.

CAST spokesman Peter Pattackos tells Newsradio WTAM 1100, they are looking to attract more volunteers, as Cleveland's business community continues to marshal its forces to get the sin tax approved without any serious discussion of the alternatives.

Pattackos feels up for consideration should be, adding a surcharge to tickets to pay for stadium upkeep, or having other counties contribute since more that 50% of the attendees to Cleveland's sports venues come from outside of Cuyahoga County.

The current sin tax doesn't expire until May of 2015, so Pattackos contends there's no need for a quick approval at the polls this may.

He maintains the push for quick approval is just "business as usual" in Cleveland, with little concern about the needs of Cuyahoga County residents today.
