Cleveland Mother Sentenced for Baby's Death

(Cleveland) 32-year-old Kristel Candelario found out Monday that she'll spend the rest of her life in prison for causing the death of her 16-month-old daughter Jailyn in June of 2023. That is when the Cleveland mother made the fateful decision to leave her little girl home alone in a Pack-N-Play with very little food and water, for 10-days while she went on vacation. Upon her return, Candelario found Jailyn dead, lying in her own feces. She died of starvation and dehydration. During sentencing, Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge Brendan Sheehan told Candelario "just as you didn't let Jailyn out of her confinement until she died, so too you should spend the rest of your life in a cell without freedom." In February, she pleaded guilty to charges of aggravated murder and child endangering. Candelario can appeal the sentence.
