A couple of students from Nebraska who wrote the song in 1964, recorded it in 1968 and had a regional Lincoln and Omaha hit with it. It got picked up nationally and "In The Year 2525" became a Number One hit toward the end of spring in 1969.
The guys don't perform as a duo anymore, but are still friends. Zager makes custom guitars, and Evans still sings and writes songs.
