Today on the Fab 4 at 4, we're celebrating the 50th Anniversary of "Love Me Do"!

"Love Me Do" is The Beatles' first single, released October 5th, 1962. While only a Number 17 hit in the UK, it went all the way to Number One on the US Charts when it was released in 1964.

An early Lennon–McCartney composition, Paul wrote most of the song in 1958 and 1959 while skipping school at age 16, with John contributing the bridge. Their practice at the time was to scribble songs in a school notebook, dreaming of stardom, always writing "Another Lennon-McCartney Original" at the top of the page.

The Beatles with keyboardist Billy Preston perform "Love Me Do" during the 1969 "Get Back" sessions:

"Love Me Do" was recorded by the Beatles on three different occasions with three different drummers: original Beatles' drummer Pete Best, Ringo Starr and session drummer Andy White. Longtime Beatles' producer George Martin asked Andy White to record the song, as he was unhappy with Starr's perfomance.
