The success of the G.R.E.A.T. Program is founded on the mutual commitment of law enforcement and educational agencies, united in a common goal to:
  • Provide children with the skills necessary to combat the stresses that set the stage for gang involvement.
  • Provide children with accurate knowledge about gang involvement.
  • Provide children with the skills necessary to resolve conflicts peacefully.
  • Help children understand the need to set realistic goals.
The purpose of the G.R.E.A.T. Program is to create safer schools and communities by reducing youth involvement in gangs. Also to prevent youth crime, violence, and gang involvement among school-aged youth in all communities by reducing the precursor attitudes and behaviors associated with these behaviors and create safer schools and communities by building positive relationships among law enforcement, families, and young people.

Donnell Carter

My name is Donnell Carter. I am 14 years old. I am a 10th grader at Success-Tech Academy in Downtown Cleveland. I have two sisters and two brothers. I like writing and listening to music. I also like to read in my spare time. My favorite subjects in school are Reading and Math. I especially liked reading "To Kill a Mockingbird". After graduating from college with a degree in journalism, I intend to go to law school. I have not decided what type of law that I want to practice. I would one day like to marry and have children. I do not know if I will settle down in Cleveland. When we first started in the G.R.E.A.T. program I was not sure that I wanted to participate. I faced a lot of fears while having a lot of fun doing stuff that I never thought I would do.

G.R.E.A.T. STUDENT OF THE MONTH
FOR JUNE 2008:

Drew Relyea

Hello, my name is Drew Relyea.  I am a sixth-grader at Chagrin Falls Intermediate School.  I enjoy learning about science and history.  When I grow up I may want to be an archaeologist or historian.  Last year for my birthday I got a dog who I named Bandit.  Bandit is a shi-poo.  He is a very lazy dog who likes to have his belly rubbed, but he growls if he does not know you and you get too close.

I think the G.R.E.A.T. program is really good.  It is amazing how easy it is for kids to make the wrong choices today.  G.R.E.A.T. helps kids learn to make the right choices.  Also, it helps kids learn to control their anger and even help others control their anger.  We also talked about different body signs to help recognize anger.  I think the G.R.E.A.T. program helps kids a lot and should be continued at my school and others in the community.
