Just Killing Time In Vegas - A Comedy Murder Mystery in Spades!
Sept 19, 2007 - Oct 31, 2008
The Powerhouse Pub Cleveland, OH. In this glitzy and extravagant city of Las Vegas, fame and riches can be seen from every street corner of the glamorous Strip. But, at the unseemly and less well-known casino, Nero's Castle, this wealth has been much harder to come by. That fact, however, has not dampened the overriding desires of the staff and management of this third-rate casino. They have all come to the Nevada desert for their shot at unimaginable prosperity and are willing to achieve it at any cost.
Come join us for an evening of Las Vegas style dining and musical entertainment. Meet the employees of Nero's Castle and witness their own fervent drive to achieve stardom. Perhaps it will be these very desires that will lead them to commit an unthinkable sin right in the heart of Sin City itself. The saying goes "what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas" but crimes must be solved, even when you are "Just Killing Time in Vegas."
**** Not recommended for children under 14 years of age due to adult themes and humor.
**** The Powerhouse Pub is located at 2000 Sycamore Street in Cleveland on the lower level of the Cleveland Powerhouse building on the west bank of the "Flats" (between the Nautica Pavilion and Shooter's)

Suspect from the Mystery Book "King of the Holly Hop" and the Author Come Together For an Evening of Music, Readings, Discussions, and Signings.
Friday, October 10th
Mystery writer Les Roberts joins Tommy Wiggins, the suspect in Robert’s new Milan Jacovich’s mystery “King of the Holly Hop”, for a night of music, readings, discussions, and signings on Friday October 10th, 2008 at Borders Books and Music of Fairlawn located at 3737 W. Market St., Fairlawn, OH from 7PM – 8 PM.
Tommy Wiggins, who is the suspect in Les Robert’s new book “King of the Holly Hop” (Gray & Co., Publishers) performs songs from his new CD 10. Tommy Wiggins won an auction, during a charity, a couple years ago to be written as a character in Les Robert’s new mystery. Les portrays Tommy as a playwright though in real life he is a local singer/songwriter who has been performing and recording his blend of rootsy blues rock and pop for almost 40 years.
“King of the Holly Hop” is Les Robert’s 14th Milan Jacovich mystery novel about a murder that takes place during Jacovich’s fortieth reunion of St. Clair High School (where Tommy Wiggins, as a successful playwright, is the prime suspect). Les Roberts had a 24 career in Hollywood as the first producer and head writer for the Hollywood Squares as well as a writer for the Andy Griffith Show, the Jackie Gleason Show, and the Man from U.N.C.L.E. He was the past president of the Private Eye Writers of America and the American Crime Writer’s League. This evening event provides a unique atmosphere to patrons in bringing together both the suspect and his author in one rare moment of free entertainment, discussions, and signings.

The Great Safety Adventure is a non-profit exhibit (fun, visual, educational, free), that teaches kids about home safety. Traveling across the country, it’s coming to Cleveland October 11 – November 1. The interactive and animated safety house is visiting elementary schools during the week and is free and open to the public on the weekends touching on topics including fire safety, poison prevention, drowning dangers, etc.
A “FIELD TRIP ON WHEELS” –The Great Safety Adventure is a nearly 1,000 square foot home that teaches kids and their families how to avoid common household dangers, including: falls, poisoning, fires and burns, choking and suffocation and drowning. The exhibit visits local schools and Lowe’s Home Improvement Warehouse locations throughout the country bringing home safety messages to children in a fun and entertaining way.
WHERE’S THE DANGER? – An adult “Safety Ranger”, with the help of children, points out many safety dangers in the kitchen. Each time a danger is identified, children are prompted to say “Code Red Rover, Grown-Up Come Over” reinforcing the importance of involving an adult in correcting home dangers. Once spotted with the childrens’ flashlights, the dangers are made to disappear.
GET LOW AND GO – The Great Safety Adventure teaches children about the importance of working smoke alarms. They learn that if they see smoke in a home, they should use a second way out; or, crouch and crawl under the smoke to a safe meeting place outside. In the exhibit, children escape to safety as harmless artificial smoke fills the bedroom to simulate what to do in case of a fire. Visit, www.homesafetycouncil.org for more information.

Jungle Jam - The Hunt for a Cure for Bone Marrow Disease
Friday, October 17th
Jungle Jam, a unique, new benefit for bone marrow disease research, will be held Friday, October 17 from 6:30 p.m. to midnight at downtown Cleveland’s House of Blues (308 Euclid Avenue). The festivities will include performances by local bands, a silent auction and special guest appearances. Proceeds from Jungle Jam will help fund the research of Cleveland Clinic’s Dr. Jaroslaw Maciejewski, one of the world’s foremost specialists in bone marrow disease and the Principal Investigator of the Bone Marrow Failure Disease Consortium. Bone Marrow Failure Diseases include Aplastic Anemia, PNH and MDS; non-contagious, rare and potentially fatal illnesses in which blood production in the marrow is disrupted. Complications can arise, and the only cure is a bone marrow transplant.
Cleveland Heights residents Jeff and Sherri Kitzberger, whose eight-year-old daughter Annalyse was diagnosed with two forms of bone marrow disease three years ago, devised Jungle Jam to increase awareness of the disease and raise much-needed funds for research and a cure. For now, Annalyse’s Aplastic Anemia is in remission, but her PNH remains a threat. Her body must work harder than most to produce enough red blood cells, and she has blood drawn on a regular basis to check for low counts. Each time, her parents anxiously wait for positive numbers.
Tickets start at $125. They will be available at the door. For more information, contact Pauline Ramig at 216-297-9062 or visit the website at www.makeithappen4bmd.org.

Trench Cuisine: A Rock Band's Recipe for Semi-Success
Monday, October 27th - Friday, November 28th
Fawick Gallery Kleist Center for Art and Drama 95 East Bagley Rd. Berea, Ohio 44017
The Department of Art & Art History of Baldwin Wallace College Presents, "Trench Cuisine: A Rock Band's Recipe for Semi-Success" by artist Craig Matis in the Fawick Art Gallery at Baldwin-Wallace College.
The opening reception will be Friday November 7th, 5-8pm. This is a free exhibit and will be open to the public. This exhibit will run October 27th – November 28th. Gallery hours are Monday-Friday 2-5pm and by appointment at 440.826.2152.
Craig Matis explains the shows concept and experience: "In its very early days my band, Uzizi, incorporated its songs into a visual format. Before there were Power Point presentations, there were slide shows. I created slide visuals of original artwork that were used in the band's live shows as another means of telling the stories behind the songs. Consequently, designing what I coined as 'songbooks' later became a format which seemed to be a natural extension of the band experience.
The songbook exhibition, "Trench Cuisine: A Rock Band's Recipe for Semi-Success", is a series of 24 panels which engages the viewer in a surreal story about a rock band's journey, from its inception to its tour through the United Kingdom. While the story is fictional, there are definitely elements of it that are true.
The exhibition cannot be experienced fully unless the viewer listens to the accompanying CD on one of the portable CD players available at the gallery desk. The music was recorded by Uzizi."
Any additional information or questions can be forwarded to Rich Cihlar, Office Manager 440.826.2152 or rcihlar@bw.edu.
